Up and coming para-athlete Stacey Copas of Nairne is thrilled to have the support of myPHYSIOsa in her quest for Gold in 2016 Rio Paralympics.
A devastating accident at 12 years old left Stacey a quadriplegic and dependent on a wheelchair for mobility. Prior to this she was a keen runner and played softball and soccer. No longer able to do those activities Stacey vowed that she would never play sport again since she couldn’t do it as well as before her accident.
Fast forward 22 years and Stacey finally caved in on this vow and attended a Paralympic Talent Search day with the intention to find a recreational activity to get fit. She was surprised to discover that the coaches encouraged her to pursue several activities and was even more surprised to get a letter a couple of weeks later saying she showed the capabilities to be a potential Paralympian.
This was all that was needed to reignite the sporting competitiveness of decades before and Stacey took up discus. With the support of her coach and Tim Bass of myPHYSIOsa she undertook a physical and technical training regime to build skill and strength. Within months she was the State Champion and collected a Silver Medal at Australian Championships in Sydney.
Now Stacey has added track racing to her events and has not only the Rio Paralympics in her sights, she is aiming for world records and world championships between now and then. Stacey is excited to be sharing the journey with myPHYSIOsa. Click this link to visit her website.
