Why Choose Hydrotherapy During Pregnancy?

Water-based exercise offers unique advantages for pregnant women that land-based activities simply can’t match. The buoyancy of water reduces strain on your joints and ligaments while supporting your changing body, making movement comfortable even in later pregnancy stages.

Physical Benefits for Mother & Baby:

  • Enhanced energy levels and better sleep quality – many of our Adelaide clients report sleeping more soundly after evening classes
  • Improved cardiovascular fitness and muscle strength without impact stress on your body
  • Promoted circulation and reduced swelling in legs and ankles, particularly beneficial in Adelaide’s warmer months
  • Supported healthy weight gain for both mother and baby throughout pregnancy
  • Reduced back and pelvic pain through gentle resistance training and targeted movements

The warm water temperature (33 degrees) helps relax tense muscles while the hydrostatic pressure naturally reduces fluid retention – a common complaint we hear from pregnant women across Adelaide’s suburbs.

What Makes AquaBumps at myPhysioSA Different?

FAQ

Do I need to know how to swim?

No swimming skills are required. Our pool has shallow sections, and all exercises are performed standing or with flotation support. Many women who aren’t confident swimmers love AquaBumps classes because the water provides support and safety.

What should I bring to class?

Bring a comfortable maternity swimsuit, towel, water bottle, and any post-swim snacks you might need. We provide all exercise equipment. Changing facilities and showers are available on-site at our Eastwood clinic.

Can I start classes in my third trimester?

Absolutely! While many Adelaide mothers join us earlier in pregnancy, you can begin AquaBumps classes at any stage with medical clearance. Our physiotherapists will ensure exercises are appropriate for your trimester and fitness level.

What if I have pelvic pain or other pregnancy discomfort?

This is exactly why our classes are physiotherapist-led. We regularly work with pregnant women experiencing pelvic girdle pain, back pain, or other pregnancy-related musculoskeletal concerns. Hydrotherapy is often ideal for these conditions as the water supports your body while you exercise. Let us know about any discomfort when booking.

Is the pool water safe during pregnancy?

Yes, our pool is maintained to rigorous health standards with appropriate chlorination and regular testing. The water temperature (33 degrees) is specifically chosen to be safe and comfortable for pregnant women – warm enough to relax muscles but not so warm as to raise core body temperature.

What happens after I have my baby?

We also offer postnatal services including women’s health physiotherapy appointments and mums & bubs programs. Many of our AquaBumps participants continue with postnatal care at our Adelaide clinics.
